Taua Grande Hotel Thermas de Araxá

Great Hotel and Araxá Spa is a hotel in the city of Araxá, Minas Gerais. Located in Barreiro Park, its construction was started in 1938 and inaugurated in 1944 by President Getulio Vargas and the miner governor Benedito Valadares 1.

The gardens and the entire landscape design were created by the famous painter and landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx 2. Luiz Signorelli architect of the project is architectural style similar to that found in the old colonial buildings of Spanish America, in countries such as Colombia and Venezuela. Its walls are lined with reddish clay, symbolizing simplicity.

Araxá Baths.

Internally, the Grand Hotel follows the neo-classical style with columns, capitals and arches. The project includes restaurants, bars, a cinema and a casino, but the latter had the activities ended with the prohibition of gambling in Brazil by President Eurico Gaspar Dutra, in 1946.

The hotel is integrated into the Araxá Baths for a suspended gallery, decorated with frescoes of landscapes and State sights.

The property is under the responsibility of the Economic Development Company of Minas Gerais, which takes care of the economic development of the state of Minas Gerais. The hotel group Taua took the hotel management in 2010 through a public competition for a period of 15 years, from the location to be commercially called Taua Grande Hotel and Araxá Baths “3.

The Hotel also impressed by the size, considering its time of construction. From the ground to the main facade of the attic are 9 floors and approximately 27.34 meters tall. 4
