As one of Italy’s next great destinations, Puglia is constantly coming up with new travel initiatives and proposals of what to do in the city, with a particular emphasis on local experiences .
With the new wave of travel focusing on the experience, one of the key factors is the interaction with locals. New innovative proposals have sprung up across the globe and in Puglia to promote such interactions, including Eat-With, where locals offer a home-cooked meal in their home or Trip4Real where real people promote local experiences in their towns.
Especially Salento, Puglia’s most southern district, is increasingly becoming a major food and wine tourism destination. Equipped with an ideal Mediterranean climate has at its disposition a wealth of local products, wines, olive oil, fresh seafood, local vegetables that offer a range of flavors and experiences that will excite any foodie traveling to Italy’s heel.
But Salento’s growing popularity is owed — in our humble opinion — especially to the fact that the quality of the wines being produced here continues to attract not only food and wine lovers, but also some of the world’s leading food and wine writers, including American media. In the last couple of years alone, for example, Cantele and Salento have been featured in Food & Wine magazine and Wine Spectator, among many other high-profile mastheads.
We couldn’t be more thrilled that our region is receiving the recognition it deserves as one of the greatest food and wine destinations in the world.
Kudos to the editors of the Gambero Rosso for their excellent feature on Salento in the March issue of the magazine! Hopefully, it will make the English-language of the magazine as well.
